Exquisitely Elegant Cakes

On a cloudy and chilly August morning I met with the talented lady behind Aimeejane Cake Design in her lovely bright kitchen as she finished working on one of her stunning creations!

I’ve been coveting this incredibly talented ladies cakes from a far for a while now via Facebook and decided it was time to pay her a visit and find out more about her.

Aimeejane Cake Design all started with a little girls’ 2nd birthday cake. Aimee’s little girl to be precise. All she knew was she wanted to make her a nice birthday cake – next thing she knew she had “the itch” and she was off. All it took was one cake and the requests started flowing in! Friends and family began to ask for cakes for their kids and then – that first Wedding Cake Request. It was then that she realised that she LOVED making wedding cakes.

Aimee has been making cakes for the last 4 years but two years ago decided to turn her passion into her profession! The incredible thing about Aimee is she’s almost entirely self-taught only recently having started attending some workshops – and has just returned from classes in Sydney.

Aimee loves that she can incorporate a weddings theme into the wedding cake. She can take the design from your invite or from the lace work on your dress. She’s inspired by colour combinations, flowers and fabrics. She takes her inspiration from every aspect of your wedding and turns it into an incredibly beautiful creation like the one she was working on when I arrived.

Aimee’s created a few interesting and challenging cakes over the last few years with her largest being a cake version of the Hawera Water Tower! Her largest wedding cake has been a whopping 5 TIERS! (WOW – that’s a lot of cake!)

I had the pleasure of taste testing some cake while I visited. Aimee had whipped up some AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS (and oh so gorgeous) Vanilla Cupcakes with White Chocolate Ganache frosting…..I was in HEAVEN!

Aimee has quite a variety of flavours like Baileys Mud Cake, Lemon, Vanilla , White Chocolate Mud Cake and of course traditional fruit cakes (and so many more) – and the great thing – if like me you’d find it impossible to choose – you can have different flavoured tiers! YUM!

As I sat staring at the beautiful cake in front of me – the perfectly smooth and even fondant, the intricate lace work and the delicate handmade roses – I was in TOTAL AWE! Did you know it can take upwards of a WEEK to create such a stunning cake? Everything on a cake from Aimeejane Cake Design is handmade and some of the stunning sugar flowers can take several days to complete.

If like me you’ve fallen in LOVE with Aimee’s incredible and elegant creations you can contact her directly to arrange a consultation. As you can imagine her cakes are really in demand and she’s gets booked up quite far in advance and is already taking booking for up to a year away.

It all begins with a one-on-one consultation – bring along your ideas, your inspiration, your invite or even a fabric sample or picture of your dress and sit back and watch in awe as this amazingly talented lady makes your cake dreams come to life.
