Tarata Valley

If you are looking for a country wedding at a reasonable cost, the Tarata Valley venue has it all and is just 37 kilometres from New Plymouth. A picturesque, riverside village with tree lined lanes and beautiful gardens awaits, offering a range of accommodation and venue options.

Built in 1904, the historical Tarata Church is perfect for a small intimate wedding. Alternatively, you may prefer an open air ceremony, surrounded by gardens with the church as a backdrop.

Only 500 metres along the road is the Tarata Hall. Opened in 1905 the main hall is 200 metres square, has a log burner fireplace for winter events and north facing stacker doors leading out to fully fenced tennis courts to extend your reception area in the warmer months. The hall also has a stage, supper room, spacious full kitchen, along with a side room where little ones can be put down to sleep while everyone else enjoys the evening.

Between the church and the hall is The Croft; a seven bedroom B&B surrounded by expansive park like gardens. The Croft is the ideal place for the bridal party to prepare, enjoy drinks and nibbles before or after the ceremony, or use the large lawn for a marquee wedding and make use of the charming fire pit, quaint outdoor kitchen and unique barbecue area. Outdoor shower and baths overlooking the stream are also available for those staying over.

The icing on the cake is the peaceful Tarata Domain. Sitting on the banks of the Waitara River and a short stroll from the hall, the 4.9 hectare domain has large open spaces, surrounded by mature trees and has an on-site toilet block. Invite your guests to bring along their tents, motorhomes or caravans for the night; allowing for a lazy start to the day after and the possibility of waking to a family barbecue or brunch.

All four of these areas are available as stand alone options, or a range of packages to suit your needs.

We were married in the garden I loved having the church as a wet day back up and for photos. The hall is very country hall we loved all of it and the people were beyond helpful and the Croft was a beautiful place for us and our family’s to stay. Some of our guests even camped at the domain. It is a truely unique friendly little spot I’m so glad we found it.
